Replacing kitchen cabinets is one of the most expensive things you can do to a house. Refinishing the ones you have costs a fraction of it, and if the boxes are solid the result looks new.
Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labeled, hardware is removed, and everything is cleaned of grease before sanding — kitchen cabinets carry cooking residue that will reject paint if it is skipped. Surfaces are sprayed rather than brushed, which is what produces the smooth factory-like finish rather than brush marks.
